Late 90's BM worship, but it's also a lil more than that. This album takes the best elements from the scene it's inspired by and mostly avoids the worst of it; the song-writing is well-written, it's performed with passion and fun, and the production is raw but isn't lo-fi. (i.e. it doesn't obfuscate and/or suckass).
Tl;dr It's safe but high quality BM. Recommended. Rabbit

I liked the prior release a whole lot but "Tome II" is miles beyond that record in all respects: songwriting, technical playing and, most importantly, the production which adds another layer of power to these songs. Honestly just check the song "Both of Me" which is one of those album openers that demonstrates not only how far Grave Circles have come as a band but also sets the stage for the passionate self-destruction that follows. Holy hell is this good. bcb723

This would have been highly impressive as a full length debut but Tiamtü was released first. But who cares? I'm just glad that this gem of orthodox black metal with its great bleak and occult feel and energy finally was remastered and released. mourner

The atmosphere of this album is fantastic. Makes you feel like you're knee-deep in the trenches drenched in mud, filth, sweat, and blood. Truly encapsulates the horrors of World War I, and the fact that the lyrics of some of the songs are taken from old war letters really adds to the authenticity.
